Created in collaboration with media artist Nahee Hong, "No. 1964" is a poster series that reinterprets a poem by Dag T. Straumsvåg of the same title.
We felt that the description of personhood as imprisonment and confinement within the poem resonated with the graphical language of a vending machine. This icon translates this quality of entrapment and commodification of life very well and served as the starting point for the visual design.
Each poster contains a line from the poem and expresses it with its own vending-machine-character personality. These posters may be read individually, ordered according to the poem, or rearranged to produce new juxtapositions and visual contrasts.
